There is the Las Vegas that is known as the strip, which makes up a mere 4.2 miles of what tourists have come to define as “Las Vegas”. There is so much more to this glorious city and you need only venture 2.6 miles off the Las Vegas strip to find one of those gems, Bailiwick, inside of The Orleans Hotel and Casino.
The name The Orleans might be new to you, but it has everything you could want in a Las Vegas vacation. To start with, it has all the gambling that you could possibly want and it is more affordable than their more well-known counterparts on the Las Vegas strip. From there you can find a bowling alley, a great pool area and seemingly non-stop events including basketball tournaments at the Orleans Arena. Regardless of whether you are staying at The Orleans or simply looking for a fun place to eat and drink, one of the true gems is Bailiwick.
There are so many reasons to experience Bailiwick, let me count them all. One of the best beer selections in all of Las Vegas, wonderful and affordable food, great live music and the fact that it is just a wonderfully cool restaurant that is impossible not to have a fun time in.
A beer selection such as the one that comes from the taps of Bailiwick deserves a lot of attention and it is not just the beer, but the staff knows the beer. I asked what the best stout was on tap and was steered towards the Kentucky Breakfast Stout from Founders Brewing. That recommendation could not have been more perfect as this was all stout as the chocolate and coffee flavors still managed to shine through that strong bourbon barrel aging that it had to endure before making its way to your glass. The stout fun continues with Stone Xocoveza, bringing the complex flavors of Mexican hot chocolate to this beer. In addition they have the Marshmallow Milk Stout, which lives up to the name as well as the classic Dragon’s Milk Stout. Don’t worry, if a stout is not your beer of choice they have so many more great selections such as: Space Dust IPA, Brew Free! or Die Blood Orange IPA and the 120 Minute IPA just to name a few.
When it comes to bread, the version that Bailiwick serves up might simply be the best in all of Las Vegas. This sea salt, whole loaf foccacia bread is served fresh out of the oven and when you pull it apart the abundance of burrata mozzarella cheese simply oozes out of each flavorful piece. Bailiwick certainly knows their cheeses as they also serve up a fantastic charcuterie board that features such flavors as: gorgonzola dolce, prairie breeze cheddar, parmigiano reggiano and aged manchego. Combine that with your choice of meats and you are left with a plethora of amazing flavors. Bailiwick can take you in an entirely different direction with appetizers that are done equally as well with their tuna poke and Japanese fish tacos.
The main menu has a little bit of everything to make sure that everyone at your table will find something that they like. The burgers are a must, each of the many versions is made with a half pound black Angus beef and while they come with a side of your choice, the house made chips with that fresh out of the fryer crispness are a must. Bailiwick does some other classics like a great fish & chips made with fresh cod, a half charbroiled chicken and bbq pork spareribs. They do get a little more adventurous with jambalaya and an Italian meatloaf that is made with provolone cheese and pomodoro sauce. Finally they also do a wonderful job taking on Italian dishes with an assortment of handcrafted pizzas and pastas like the seafood pescatore and chicken shiitake garlic noodles.
Las Vegas is without question one of the top tourist destinations in the world and the reasons are seemingly endless as to why that is true. Whether it is driving or flying into Las Vegas all lights point to the Las Vegas strip, but there are countless reasons to venture into other areas of Las Vegas and let you discover that there is so much more to Las Vegas than what you might know. Bailiwicks is the perfect example of that. If you are looking for a fun time from your first appetizer and beer to the entertainment and a place you could spend hours at, Bailiwick has it all.
